To Our Precious Child

Dearest Baby,

This is you at 5 weeks and 2 days. A healthy, blossoming cell the size of a grain of rice with a brain and a neural cord buried deep inside mummy. Thank you for being tucked safely right at the back of the womb ensuring that you have plenty space to grow. Thank goodness you did not end up being ectopic or too low in the womb so the risk of miscarriage is alot lower.

Mummy and Daddy have been married for 1 month and 1 day now, and you were formed on 18 March, 4 days after our wedding! You are truly a miracle child, a one-hit wonder! And you are so ever precious to us.

When Mummy tested positive, it was still too early to determine the pregnancy, but I went to get myself checked and insisted on a ultrasound. Even though the doctors were doubtful, there you were, sitting right in the middle and greeting me and your Ah Mah with a beautifully clear ultrasound! Although Ah Mah said you and the placenta look like the cross-section of an avocado, I think you look more like a cashew nut!

Nevertheless, today, you are 6 weeks old and although you are making mummy very queasy and tired, I am glad you are giving mummy all these pregnancy symptoms to indicate that you are very alive and developing well! Your doctor is actually the doctor that delivered your uncle Jerome (how cool is that!) and she says that the more mummy craves for strange food and gets dizzy and nauseous, the healthier you are. So don't worry, grow those little eyes and nose and mouth and let your new growing heart beat because at week 6 this week, that's what you are supposed to do! This week too, you grow bigger into the size of a bean and your internal organs and the rest of your brains and muscles and bones are growing! You are amazing! Don't worry mummy can take the sick feeling, keep growing ok!

Continue growing little one, mummy will eat lots of healthy nurtrious things to nourish you. Stay strong ok! Mummy and Daddy will see you and listen to your heartbeat next Saturday! Can't wait to see you again!

Lots and lots and lots of love,
Mummy
